Everyone LOVES to hate on Lawyers. Don't do it, as you may need one some day. I never thought I would need one, but it turns out I did.
I have found myself in the unfortunate position of needing to hire a lawyer to defend myself against a nutty woman about a fence issue. I won't bore you all with the details, but I had an ugly problem with a fence re-build on a property I manage. Turns out the rear neighbor is a total whack job. Who knew?
This woman got out of line with her demands, to the point where I felt I was over my head.
I then consulted with one of the best real estate attorneys in our town. Yeah, it cost me a few hundred bucks, but he gave me GREAT advice and the crazy woman backed down.
We will be putting up the fence next week ( I hope) and this will be behind me. I have learned a thing or two during this episode and hope I don't need to consult my attorney in the future. If I do, I know Dave will be there. He really helped me out.
Yay, Lawyers!
A Month of Reflection

us, it’s a darker and quieter season. It’s the perfect time for reflection.

Thanks for the shout-out Janie. It's funny because it wasn't until I was in college that I had any idea that some people held lawyers in low esteem or thought they were crooked or whatever! At my house, lawyers were considered the protectors of individual rights, the voice of the little guy without political power, and charged with upholding the Constitution. Lofty ideas, right? But I guess that's what happens when you grow up with lawyers.
I know exactly what you are saying. My Dad was a cop for almost 30 years, so growing up in that environment, I could not fathom how people hated the police. Not the protectors of our rights, as Lawyers are, but protectors of the peace. After I was born, my Dad took Mom and me home in a black and white. Long story, but it's kind of special and certainly would not happen today.
I guess the bad apples in any profession paint all of the rest of us with a bad mark. People love to hate Realtors, too, and most of the ones I've met are great.
Just like the Osmond's sang in the 70s - something about one bad apple.
